DPP is already creating jobs - Mutharika

President Peter Mutharika says the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is already creating jobs and will create more in the next five years.

The Malawi leader who is also DPP presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections said this when opening of Kasama Community Technical College in Chitipa District on Monday.

He said other presidential candidates in the May elections are claiming that they will create jobs without revealing how this will done.

According to Mutharika, the DPP Government is establishing community colleges to empower youth with skills which will allow them to create their own businesses and empower the youth to create jobs for others.

"We are creating jobs and businesses by providing rural electricity to communities. With rural electricity, young men and women are now able to start businesses like welding, salons, photocopying and printing and video show rooms in rural areas.

"We are empowering the Youth in rural communities to be self-dependent because I want Malawi to be a self-reliant nation," Mutharika said.

He also claimed that foreign direct investors are coming into the country and are employing Malawians.

Mutharika then promised more jobs and more businesses in the next five years if he wins the elections.

On the community colleges, Mutharika said all the districts in all the regions of this country will have a college.

The aim is to have a skilled labour force that can develop the country.

Said Mutharika: "I want Malawi to rise like Germany, Malaysia and Singapore which developed because they invested in Youth skills development and infrastructure. I want us to transform Malawi."
